Sigikid

Founded in 1856, Sigikid is a German company with a fascinating approach to their products. The company started out as a store selling mirrors, glass and bead toys but as the company passed down through the family's generations, toys became more important. In 1968 it was realised that good design and high quality are very important factors in the development of a child, but toys meeting these standards were nowhere to be found hence the current day sigikid was born.

The company is geared towards children and products are developed for their main user group - children between the ages of 0 and 6. The basic need sigikid seeks to fill is cuddling, so all sigikid products are soft and cuddly, including their dolls. Their products are manufactured in Germany and are very high quality but sigikid also wish to raise a smile in the eyes of their clients and children - hence their use of the term congeniality (congenial + quality). Finally, design is everything. The Company's aim has always been to create highly aesthetic products, which at the same time are suitable for children. I love the fact that their products are never realistic reproductions, as they believe that realism inhibits childrens' fantasies, and it is fantasy that operates all of their products.
